Thank God I was pregnant last year

because I'm actually following the election this year, and there's no way little Lucy would have survived my blood pressure fluctuations.

I hate politics. I hate politicians. I hate the way modern politics has gone, where the bulk of the population doesn't bother to vote, and a good bunch of the people who do vote vote for the guy they "trust," or who had the flashier ads on TV. People don't watch or listen to the debates, people don't learn about the issues, and they so often vote based on just one issue -- and it makes me nuts.

I'm trying to stay balanced, even if my vote was decided last year. Last week, I listened to the DNC, I was inspired. This week, I'm trying -- I'm really trying -- to listen to the RNC (that's Republican National Convention, for Shannon :) ), and my blood pressure...let's just say that I had to put down the lace.

Put aside your positions on the issues for just a second. When I listened to the DNC, I heard "John McCain is going to do this...Barack Obama is going to do this. John Mccain will do X...Barack Obama will do y." There were positions discussed, practical explanations of how things were going to happen.

When I listen to Rudy Guliani talk, all I'm hearing is "How dare that Barack guy go to an Ivy League school? And how come he talks so good? And how can he think he can run anything, when he's not experienced? Yeah? Huh? And we're going to put nuclear power plants on every corner, and don't you ask about how long it's going to take to get them built, or where we'll get the uranium to run the plants, or what we're going to do with it when it's done!"

I'm dealing with this to listen to Sarah Palin, because I am nervous about her, and I want to hear what she has to say.

I note that NPR didn't tell me what Sarah Palin was wearing tonight, something they felt it necessary to tell me about when Hillary stood up for Barack Obama.

Erg. Just erg.

Shan, seriously, if John Mccain wins this election, I'm moving my family next door to you.

Sorry for the random political intrusion into this normally calm knitting/motherhood/general work blog. I'm just...frustrated.

Well it's nice here...and we would make you most welcome.

What I can't believe is that even we Canadians, up here in CANADA, have been hearing campaigning for your election for, like, two years now, and it hasn't HAPPENED yet. I think there's some talk about an election up here, which if called (some time this week) would happen October 14. Five weeks from now. Now THAT'S politics in perspective!

I couldn't believe my ears when John McCain's second reason that he himself told the country as to why Palin was experienced enough was that she'd been in the PTA. Not even, she headed her local PTA, but had been IN. My stars! I'm qualified, too!

I could go on and on for pages, but... I cannot WAIT to vote for Obama.

Oh I am so glad you brought it up.
Being enraged about Sarah Palin's nomination and speech does not begin to cover it.
I cried when they showed her son who is going to Iraq. More cannon fodder.

Boy, I live in the Reddest state in the union and they love Palin. It's hard to be an Obama supporter in this town.

I'll try to keep this brief and I blogged on it on my Yahoo 360 last January. I went to NH to listen to Obama, Hillary and Edwards. Hillary was the one with all the answers. Obama would not accept questions from the audience and consistently compared himself to MLK and JFK...give me a break. None of the advid Obama supporters I spoke with had gone to listen to any other candidate. I don't care for McCain, can't stand the fact that being a PTA president, hockey mom and caribou hunter qualifies you to be VP. I'm sick of the media trying to decide for us which is the best candidate and the reason I listen to so many different stations.

The Reverend Wright fiasco did it for me. How can someone be good friends with their preacher for so many years and not know and stand up to what was said from the "pulpit" after 9-11...until the race for president became a goal?

Can I commute to work from Canada? Not a good idea as I'd still have to pay taxes in the US.

Can we forget that someone is white or black, female or male....but who is the best person for the job.

As for McCain....well, I respect the man but believe he is clueless on the economy and do I want the war to continue.. =..... .....NOOOOO!!!

I will vote but for who???...the lesser of all evils.

And will someone please shut up Elisabeth Hasselbeck?
